In my opinion one of life's luxuries is still reading a really fat Sunday edition of some newspaper. Since the Santa Fe New Mexican is a quick read for me, I've been supplementing with the NYTimes. Bubba, The Godfather, loves reading SFe NMex letters to the editor (we have a very opinionated, quirky citizenship who write letters that never fail to make him laugh out loud). He glances over both sports sections and the NYT arts and leisure before football grabs his attention from the printed pages. After I make myself read the serious sections, I'm a sucker for the local real estate sections (on Monday I become an official "seller" - yes - Santa Fe typically has 2-3 real estate sections and magazines in the Sunday paper), the NYTimes Style section, Book Review and magazine. As I get older (not necessarily wiser), I find myself enjoying magazines and "stylings" more and more on Sundays and airplanes as pure escapism from the HR issues, business development intrigues, and day-to-day work issues.
As payoff - today's NYTImes featured Lucinda Williams' list of what she's currently listening to (I wonder if she blogs...?). Thanks to iTunes - and a very leisurely Sunday after de-cluttering, packing, painting and shopping this weekend - I was able to sample some of them. As a result I was able to spend my iTunes gift certificates (and more) this evening on: Sara Tavares, Carrie Rodriguez, Gotan Project (the soundtrack for this blog), Hem, and some Mozart piano concertos recorded by Uchida and Steinberg. It's the biggest infusion of new music to the iPod since my Iceland trip and blog-monica-blog's Bond tracks. So - you'll know what I'll be listening during The Transition.
Netflix has allowed me to explore the relative importance of Julie Delpy vs. Jim Jarmusch. It's definitely Julie Delpy.
So you're asking - wha???
IMHO> Before Sunrise + Before Sunset + Broken Flowers (talk about baggage!) >>> Broken Flowers + Coffee & Cigarettes + Akron.
Julie Delpy movie soundtracks are cool. Now - the question of the hour is - who is Holly Golighty, anyway? And don't give me that Breakfast at Tiffany's answer. Who is the singer?
"Either you loved U2, or you liked them fine. Either you loved R.E.M., or you hated them." - D. Kois
I couldn't answer the QotD today (What song describes your mood today?), but I did laugh out loud when I saw Dan Kois' R.E.M. vs. U2 article in Slate yesterday. I liked U2 fine; I loved R.E.M. "(Don't Go Back to) Rockville" still has the ability to transport me to Charlottesville-Virginia-1984 in the blink of an eye.
